Strawberry Care Instructions
When purchasing Poteet strawberries, always remember that you are purchasing berries that are picked fresh and ripe. After your purchase, we recommend that you go home and process them.
They cannot sit in a warm or hot vehicle for long periods of time or they risk damage.
The best way to enjoy the strawberries is to process them as follows:
Fill your sink on both sides with clean water.
Put the berries one one side of the sink and gently push them around.
This will help to get any grit or sand off.
Move the berries to the other side and repeat.
We recommend one final rinsing from here, so you have washed them in 3 separate waters.
This will remove any last grit or sand.
Take them out of the water and put them in a container, such as a colander, where they can drain well.
Take a paring knife and cut off the stem and place the berries in a plastic container with a lid.
Please do not put strawberries in your refrigerator with the stem on. One of the main sources of bacteria is from the stem, once the stem is removed, the berries will last longer.
Store them in the refrigerator or freeze.
If this process is done immediately after you buy the berries, your berries should last at least a week, if not longer!
